Richard Aitken-Davies is global President for 2008-09

ACCA elected Richard Aitken-Davies as President for 2008-09 at its AGM on 15 May.

Speaking about his Presidency, Aitken-Davies said: 'It is a great honour and privilege to be representing ACCA's members throughout the world. I am proud of the contribution ACCA members have made, in all sectors, to promote and maintain high standards of decision-making and financial reporting. Our challenge is to build on this excellent platform by supporting further globalisation and simplification of reporting standards to facilitate economic growth and efficiency.'

Aitken-Davies became a Fellow of ACCA in 1980, and has served on the Council since 2000. He is chairman of ACCA's Nominating and Financial Reporting Committees, is currently the non-executive chairman of two companies, and possesses a wealth of experience in public and private industries.

Until 2003, he was chief financial officer at LG & E Energy Corp in the US; a project director at London and Continental Railways from 1996-98; and from 1995-96, a privatisation director at Railtrack plc. Prior to that, he was corporate finance director at Powergen plc from 1989-94.

Also at the AGM, Brendan Murtagh, a partner in Dublin accounting firm LHM Casy McGrath, was elected ACCA's new Deputy President, while Mark Gold, partner at London-based chartered certified practice Silver Levene, became Vice-President.
