Singapore sustainability reporting awards – winners announced

Organisations commended at Green Summit

03 Aug 2009

Alexandra Hospital and PowerSeraya Limited have emerged victorious at this year's ACCA Singapore Awards for Sustainability Reporting.

The winners were announced on 28 July at the Singapore Green Summit, organised by ACCA and the Singapore Environment Council to reward companies for excellence in environmental, social and sustainability reporting.

Best Environmental Report winner, Alexandra Hospital was commended by the judging panel for the excellent scope and broad range of issues addressed in its report. Meanwhile, PowerSeraya Limited, winner of both the Best First-time Report and Best Sustainability Report awards, was recognised for its efforts in communicating the triple bottom-line to its various stakeholder groups. It also adopted the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) framework B+, making it the highest GRI level achieved by a Singapore company to date.

'ACCA congratulates both Alexandra Hospital and PowerSeraya for their outstanding reports,' said Penelope Phoon, head of ACCA Singapore. 'ACCA has long advocated the importance of non-financial disclosure and the business benefits they bring. Entrants to the 2008 ACCA awards scheme increased by 50% over the previous year, and this uptrend is very encouraging. We have also seen an improvement in the quality of reporting as more companies adopt the GRI guidelines.'

Two other award categories featured at the Singapore Green Summit. The Top Achievers prize in the Singapore Environmental Achievement Awards went to SMRT Corporation Limited and Holcim (Singapore) Private Limited, while GreenPac secured first place in the SEC-Senoko Power Green Innovation Awards.
