ACCA underlines support for Copenhagen Communiqué
Global business leaders urged to take immediate action on climate change
24 Sep 2009
ACCA has underlined the need for 'an ambitious, robust and equitable global deal on climate change that responds credibly to the scale and urgency of the crisis facing the world today' following the publication of The Copenhagen Communiqué by business leaders from more than 500 companies worldwide.
The communiqué, which sets out the business case for a strong and effective UN climate framework and offers a progressive global consensus on the shape of an agreement, has already secured the support of companies based in more than 50 countries (including the US, EU, Japan, Australia and Canada, as well as Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), ranging from the world's largest companies and best-known brands to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across a wide variety of business sectors.
'The communiqué rightly urges developed countries to take immediate action in committing to heavy emission reductions,' said Roger Adams, ACCA executive director - policy. 'Low carbon growth is achievable, and it is our responsibility to do what we can to ensure that it happens.'
