ACCA launch new guide for public practitioners on career pathways
ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accounting) launch a new guide entitled ACCA guide to career pathways in public practice that provides a structured method to planning and managing careers in the public practice sector.
Encik Abdul Rahim Hamid, President of Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) launches the publication today, witnessed by 100 guests from public practice firms and academia.
Mr Tay Kay Luan, ACCA Regional Director, ASEAN & Australasia in his Welcome Remarks says, "ACCA believes that a strong and vibrant public practice is crucial towards the development of strong capital market supply chain and this is possible through capable and reliable accountants in public practices. As the environment for public practitioners is becoming even more challenging, they not only have to equip themselves to respond to the contagion of the economic slowdown but also need to ensure top-notch compliance to the rising accounting and auditing regulatory requirements.
"The world of public practice is one that is diverse and requires different skill sets, aptitudes and competencies. It is important that practitioners leverage on their core competencies. The ACCA guide to career pathways in public practice serves as a tool to provide guidance for those seeking to pursue a career in public practice as well as help professionals already in this practice to keep pace with the required professional developments as they seek to consistently deliver value propositions to clients successfully. Public practitioners need to be consistently re-skilled to continue being relevant in the business world," says Tay further.
The Guide is also a useful tool for employers to chart the careers of their future leaders, as well ensuring their directions, supported by the right mentoring and development infrastructures. In this guide it is also highlighted how the ACCA qualification provides a sound professional framework that ensures ACCA members are not only ‘fit for business' but are also ‘fit for the future.'
At the event, ACCA also introduces ACCA Compass , an online global competence tool that enables individuals to track progress against their career paths and to target future roles by better understanding the skills and knowledge they would need to develop. This competence assessment tool can complement the Guide as it has been designed to support public practice employees in their career planning process
According to Tay , both tools are indeed timely, amidst the background of an ever-changing business landscape across the region.
"ACCA is indeed delighted to support the public practice profession through these timely and useful tools and give both future and current accountants an edge in their professional development as they seek to scale even greater heights in their career!" goals," Tay further added.
The Guide is made available upon request to ACCA Malaysia by emailing to cpd.acca@my.accaglobal.com (while stock lasts) or see the related documents section of this page to download the copy.
