Tweeting in tweed

Shattering the stereotype of the accountant and the tax expert, HMRC (Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs) and ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) have produced a vodcast, the purpose of which is to introduce agents to the new self-assessment toolkits from HMRC, which will be available from 20 June 09. But believe it or not this is by no means ‘New Media’ to the accountancy body ACCA, who are already present on Twitter.

Clive Booth, director of Public Affairs and Media Relations, ACCA, said: 'The stereotypical image of the accountant wearing a tweed jacket with elbow patches is changing. The average age of an ACCA member is 41, and the most popular unofficial ACCA Facebook page has over 7,600 members. ACCA’s youthful membership is our future, just as the new forms of media are the future. Working with HMRC on the vodcast for the self-assessment toolkits was an ideal opportunity to show that we are ready to make tax issues more user friendly, and more 21st century'.

You can watch the vodcast here.

Besides the new vodcast, ACCA is actively involved in a range of new media:

  • Twitter – ACCA ‘tweets’ regularly.
  • Podcasts – ACCA produces podcasts on a variety of topics.
  • Email updates – ACCA sends regular email updates to subscribers.
  • Blogs – ACCA’s president and a number of ACCA students blog regularly.
