Complete Training Solutions

ACCA’s portfolio of qualifications extends beyond the Professional Scheme. Sarah Hathaway introduces the MBA and the recently revised CAT Scheme.

MBA
ACCA and Oxford Brookes University have combined their strengths as leaders in international education to produce an MBA programme designed for ACCA members. This programme recognises and gives credit for aspects of your professional studies, and can therefore be completed in 21 months.

The MBA is an internationally recognised qualification that will enable you to meet the challenges of senior management, building upon the skills that you have already developed as an accountant. Accreditation has been awarded by the Association of MBAs, in recognition of the programme’s high quality and relevance.

You can access the programme at any time – all you need is access to the Internet, providing you with the opportunity to study beyond the conventional constraints of time and place. The programme modules are: foundations of management; managing self-development; global business strategy; organisational change and transformation; and dissertation.

Application Dates and Fees
Register by 1 December for the programme starting on 15 January 2004. The fees are currently £6,500 and include a textbook and study guide for each module, tuition and support, access to the virtual library, assessment and feedback and a choice of exam centres. For information and registration details please visit: www.oxfordinstitute.org. Alternatively, contact the MBA distance learning administrator on: tel: 01865 485 802 or e-mail: info9@oxfordinstitute.org.

CAT Scheme
ACCA’s Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) Scheme is being relaunched, with the first of the new scheme examinations being held in June 2004. Building on the strength of the existing qualification, the new Scheme introduces the following features:

  • ability for students to study separate streams for international or UK accounting and auditing standards
  • more flexibility in the number of papers students can take per session
  • the opportunity to take examinations out of sequence, with those most relevant and useful taking priority.

The CAT scheme is highly regarded by employers, providing a firm foundation of knowledge and the opportunity to fast track towards becoming a professional ACCA accountant. Assessed by examination and competence-based work experience requirements, the scheme is designed to offer relevant knowledge with maximum control.

Additional information can be obtained from www.accaglobal.com or ACCA Connect on 0141 582 2000. If you would like to offer CAT as part of your organisation’s training and development programme, please contact ACCA UK Training on 020 7396 5820.
