Joining ACCA in Australia or New Zealand
Details of ACCA's Professional Scheme syllabus (ACCA/FCCA) and other ACCA qualifications and courses are available in the Students section of the ACCA global website You will also find in the same site details for registration as a student and registration forms. Brochures describing the syllabus, examinations and other qualifying requirements are available as well as on the global website. The requirements are summarised below.
The syllabus comprises 14 papers and is divided into two levels. Examination centres are available in Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland. Special examination centres can be arranged in other cities by individual request.
Examinations are held in a number of cities worldwide. A student who has passed all examinations is known as an Affiliate. Three years of approved work experience must be completed to become an ACCA Member entitled to use the designation ACCA. Progression to the designation of Fellow is automatic upon completion of five years of membership or earlier if certain professional development conditions are fulfilled.
Student registration papers must be sent directly to the ACCA Student Department in Glasgow, Scotland, not to the Australia and New Zealand Centre in Sydney. Examination applications are also processed in Glasgow.
Applications for assessment of existing qualifications for the purpose of entry to ACCA and possible exemptions must be directed to the Glasgow office, Scotland except -
If you hold, or are studying for, a degree with an Australian or New Zealand university or TAFE NSW diploma / advanced diploma and wish to determine if you are eligible for exemptions from the Professional scheme you may contact the Australia Centre for advice to process the assessment.
Exemptions for Australian or New Zealand degrees
Holders of recognised Australian or New Zealand Bachelor degrees may be eligible for exemption from part or all of the nine papers from fundamentals level. There are no exemptions for professional level.
To obtain an assessment, send the following information by fax to the Centre:
- An academic transcript with details of the module coverage.
- Confirm the location of study.
- A copy of the degree certificate.
If you have not yet completed the degree, or are planning to study for a degree at an Australian university, and require a preliminary assessment you should provide, by e-mail, fax, or by post the following information:
- Details of the name and location of the university
- the name of the degree
- expected or actual year of commencement
- actual or expected year of graduation
- degree structure confirming the modules within your degree programme.
Students are advised to obtain written confirmation of exemption status from ACCA before embarking on any course of study. Actual exemption will be confirmed at the time of a student's initial registration with ACCA. Exemption will be awarded only on the basis of a student's completion certificate and academic transcript.

Australian Colleges of Technical and Further Education (TAFE)
Holders of NSW TAFE diplomas / advanced diplomas may qualify for exemptions from some ACCA papers. For an assessment, please send to the Centre the academic transcript issued centrally by NSW TAFE with details of the subjects passed and proof of completion of the course.
Holders of TAFE diplomas / advanced diplomas awarded by other Australian state departments may be eligible for registration on ACCA?s Professional scheme.
Studying for ACCA in Australia
The recommended approach to qualifying with ACCA is to first obtain a degree with an accounting major. This may obtain exemptions from up to nine papers comprising fundamentals level of the Professional Scheme. Professional level may be studied by distance learning manuals available from a number of educational providers, most of whom are based in the United Kingdom. Many of these providers have a high level of expertise in provision of distance learning course and educational material such as study manuals. Past examination questions and answers are available from ACCA.

School Certificates
ACCA's "Open-Entry" option enables holders of senior secondary school certificates which meet Australian university entry requirements to register with ACCA. At present the senior school certificates of each state will be assessed individually.
Oxford-Brookes Degree
Students who have completed fundamentals level have the option to obtain a Bachelor of Applied Accounting Honours Degree with Oxford Brookes University. This requires completion of a 5,000-word paper in addition to having completed ACCA fundamentals level. Refer to the global site for further details of the Oxford Brookes degree scheme.
Examinations
Examinations are held in June and December each year. The commencement time for New Zealand and the eastern states of Australia is 5pm local time finishing at 8pm, for Perth Western Australia 3pm finishing at 6pm.
