ACCA’s contribution to the EC consultation on whistleblowing protection

ACCA's contribution to the European Commission's consultation on whistleblowing protection.

The European Commission launched a survey to gather input from a broad range of interested stakeholders ranging from policy makers, businesses, legal experts, journalists and media representatives, the general public. Professional associations such as ACCA is one of such stakeholders.

The objective of the consultation is to collect views, experiences and other information on matters such as the benefits and drawbacks of whistleblower protection, gaps and weaknesses of existing protection and regional divergences.

Recognising the benefits of speak up/whistleblowing in helping to prevent harm to the public interest, the Commission intends to assess the scope for horizontal or further sectorial action at EU level, while respecting the principle of subsidiarity. The survey is intended to feed into the assessment.
