Ethics: Your Moral Compass

This presentation is intended to provide delegates with a clearer understanding of how to resolve ethical dilemmas at work.  Delegates will also learn about different theories of ethical thinking, and so gain a better understanding of their own personal ethics.  The ACCA conceptual framework for addressing ethical dilemmas will be explained, and delegates will be encouraged to consider it in relation to their own personal ethics.

Elements of the presentation will include:

 - What do we mean by ethical behaviour?
 - Different ways at looking at our personal ethics
 - How society shapes our ethical thinking – including our profession
 - Understanding professional ethics and applying a framework for ethical decision-making
 - Case studies throughout

Having gained a broad range of general practice experience during the 10 years after qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, Ian joined a training consortium in 2000, specialising in auditing, and advising on general practice matters.  In August 2005, Ian joined ACCA’s Ethics and Authorisation Department.  Amongst other things, Ian’s responsibilities include contributing on POB projects, helping develop regulatory models, contributing to the development of the ACCA Rulebook, and contributing to areas of the ACCA website relating to practice and ethical matters.
