The Companies Act 2006 is the biggest Act ever passed by the British Parliament, with many provisions being introduced by delegated legislation. Implementation is gradual, occurring in a number of stages, and will be completed by October 2009. Many parts are already in force including decision making within companies, practical abolition of private company meetings, rules regarding directors’ duties and dealings with their companies and, from 6 April, many of the provisions regarding accounts and auditors. There will also be a unified system of company law for the United Kingdom. All of these will be examined in full during the course of the day. Who Should Attend? All those required to keep up to date with the latest developments in company law. Lecturer Mike Griffiths LLB LLM ACIArb, writer, lecturer and consultant in company law. Mike was deputy head of the School of Law at Wolverhampton University for some time. He now spends all his working time lecturing and writing on commercial law, particularly company law and insolvency. He is the co-editor of Loose on Liquidators and Loose on the Company Director, and is a contributor to Jordan’s Secretarial Administration and Charlesworth’s Business Law. He is a member of the Business Law Committee. |
