Farrell presents at ACCA seminar
100 accounting and finance professionals attended a one-day seminar on Strategic Management hosted by the ACCA - Caribbean. Consultant Dr. Trevor Farrell facilitated the seminar, held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel as part of a Caribbean-wide series mounted by ACCA Caribbean on the theme Professionalism and Ethics.
Thursday's seminar was especially designed for in-career professionals working in the private and public sectors and who had interface with the strategic management function. Participants undertook an examination of strategic management in the Caribbean, its problems, issues, challenges and solutions and looked at the role of accountants in contemporary strategic management.
According to Dr. Farrell, understanding the role of strategic management and effectively implementing the tools necessary to evaluate the progress of your business and make the adjustments as necessary to stay on track, are at the heart of the strategic planning process. "Strategic Management is an ongoing process that is a combination of strategy formulation and strategy implementation. Changing circumstances in technology, competitors, economic, social, financial or political environments have made it necessary for businesses and the industries in which they operate to allocate resources and implement policies and plans to achieve the organisation's objectives - in essence, determining where your business is now, where you want to go and then determining how to get there."
The ACCA's 2007 Continuous Professional Development agenda has spanned
a cross-section of topics including Fraud, Corporate Social Responsibility and
Improving Presentation skills. The strategic management series is next planned
for Jamaica, Barbados, Cayman Islands, Bermuda, St Kitts and Bahamas.
