IFRS seminar highlights key issues
International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and the many practical issues currently facing accounting professionals in the industry was the focus of a seminar hosted by the ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) in partnership with Innovative Management & Professional Training (IMPT) on October 18 th at the Marriot Resort. Over 60 accounting and finance professionals attended the seminar.
The seminar was conducted by David Raggay, a 24-year veteran in the field of auditing, accounting, investment analysis and general management and training from Trinidad & Tobago. Topics discussed included the IAS 39 Standard which is used to establish principles for recognizing and measuring financial assets, liabilities and some contracts to buy or sell non-financial items. He also discussed the IFRS 7 which requires entities to provide disclosures in their financial statements and the IAS 32 used to establish principles for presenting financial instruments as liabilities or equity and for offsetting financial assets and financial liabilities.
Following the seminar, the participants were introduced to the ACCA Members Group of the Cayman Islands. It is chaired by Tahir Manzoor. The group provides a common forum for member networking, continuing professional development and to keep up to date on developments in the accounting fraternity.
