ACCA and ASLI organised the 4th CFO Summit 2009
The role of CFOs has increasingly becoming more significant and important, especially in the current economic climate, which needs the CFOs to steer the business passing through choppy waters. In addressing this important need, ACCA in collaboration with ASLI organised the 4th CFO Summit 2009 on 6 and 7 July 2009 at Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur. YB Dato’ Chor Chee Heung, Deputy Minister of Finance delivered the Keynote Address during the opening ceremony.
President of ACCA Malaysia Advisory Committee (MAC), Datuk Mohd Nasir Ahmad in his welcome address said: “Global economic conditions continue to dominate business life. They are at the top of the world’s political agenda, and updates and debates on economic issues are almost constantly at the centre of media attention. However, what is clear and undeniable is that organisations are increasingly relying on their CFOs and accountants to help them navigate through choppy economic waters.”
“The CFO, in particular, has become more important in recent years as a guardian of financial performance and a key player in creating long-term value. As a result, the outward-facing role of CFOs has broadened. It is no longer just shareholders who are seeking to understand and analyse company performance,” Nasir added further.
With the theme “CFOs to the Rescue”, the summit aims to focus on the daunting task of improving profitability or restoring under-performing or troubled companies amidst bleak economic conditions. Among the highlights of the conference are sessions on Priorities for business in current economic condition – assessing the focus for finance, Access to finance – Getting the best in the current economic climate and also CFO Dialogue: A new era for CFOs.
At the Summit, successful global CEOs, CFOs and leading practitioners from various stakeholder groups shared, discussed and provided insights on the crucial roles of CFOs, especially during the challenging times. The role players included Dato’ Dr Abdul Halim Harun, Chief Executive Officer of UMW Holdings Berhad, Ms Irene M. Dorner, Deputy Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad, Dr S. Susela Devi, Executive Director of Malaysia Accounting Standards Board, Dr Mahani Zainal Abidin, Director General of ISIS Malaysia, Dr Ernest Kan, President of Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore, En Suhaimi Sulaiman, Executive Producer and Anchor of Astro Awani and more.
