ACCA 35th Graduation Ceremony 2009
ACCA (The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) today celebrated the success of 453 new affiliates at its 35th Graduation Ceremony. The ceremony, which was held at One World Hotel in Petaling Jaya, was witnessed by nearly 1,000 guests from all over Malaysia.
Dato’ Dr Abdul Halim Harun, FCCA Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of UMW Holdings Bhd delivered the Keynote Address and presented the certificates to the affiliates.
Addressing the new ACCA affiliates, Dato’ Dr Abdul Halim strongly emphasized on the importance of continuous learning.
“Leaning never stops - the application of the technical knowledge to real-life situations in a practical way, is what will make you the real leader in your field.
“Therefore you need to plan for your career – not once but continuously throughout the years. Set goals for your career development. Identify what you need to do in order to achieve your goals and make plans. You need to identify what are the new skills and knowledge required, and so on. Each new skill will shape your life; knowledge gained will help you move up in your career,” said Halim.
Meanwhile, Datuk Mohd Nasir Ahmad, President of ACCA Malaysia Advisory Committee in his welcome address said, “We at ACCA believe that the skills of accountants are vital in restoring confidence in the global economy, helping business to identify and manage drivers of cost and sustainable growth. And if times become more challenging, it will be down to you, as accountants, to help steer your organisations through choppy waters.” He concurred with Datuk Halim on the need for continuous learning for young accountants to keep up-to-date with the latest technical information and business practices.
At the ceremony, 39 Malaysian Prizewinners received special awards for scoring highest marks in Malaysia for various papers in ACCA and CAT examinations.
6 of these achievers are also World Prizewinners for scoring the highest marks in the world for their respective examination papers.
