ACCA elects Richard Aitken-Davies as global President
ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) elected Richard Aitken-Davies as President at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) today, 15 May 2008.
ACCA is the largest and fastest-growing global professional accountancy body and has 325,606 students and 122,426 members in 170 countries.
Mr Aitken-Davies became a Fellow of ACCA (FCCA) in 1980, and has served on the Council since 2000. He is also Chairman of ACCA’s Nominating and Financial Reporting Committees.
Speaking about his Presidency, Aitken-Davies said: “It is a great honour and privilege to be representing ACCA’s members throughout the world. I am proud of the contribution ACCA members have made, in all sectors, to promote and maintain high standards of decision-making and financial reporting. Our challenge is to build on this excellent platform by supporting further globalisation and simplification of reporting standards to facilitate economic growth and efficiency.”
Aitken-Davies is currently the non executive chairman of two companies, and possesses a wealth of experience in public and private industries. He was the Chief Financial Officer for LG & E Energy Corp in the United States up until 2003; a Project Director at London and Continental Railways from 1996-8 and Privatisation Director - Railtrack plc from 1995-6. Prior to that Mr Aitken-Davies was Corporate Finance Director at Powergen plc from 1989-94.
Bred in Yorkshire, Richard divides his time between Derby and London. He is married with three grown-up children and his interests include travel, theatre and politics.
Also at today’s AGM, Brendan Murtagh, a partner in Dublin accounting firm LHM Casy McGrath was elected Deputy President; and Mark Gold, Partner at London-based chartered certified practice Silver Levene, becomes Vice-President.
