Brendan Murtagh becomes Deputy President of ACCA
Brendan Murtagh was yesterday elected Deputy President of ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) at its Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Last year, Mr Murtagh served as ACCA’s Vice President, and next year he should then become President in May 2009.
Mr Murtagh said: "As ACCA’s Deputy President, I am looking forward to working with my colleagues to further the interests of the finance profession, in Ireland and around the world. This is a demanding role which works closely with ACCA’s Council, and its President, Richard Aitken-Davies and its new Vice President, Mark Gold."
A Fellow of ACCA (FCCA) since 1996, Mr Murtagh started his accountancy career when he left school in 1985. He qualified as an accountant in 1991, establishing his practice in 1994.
Mr Murtagh’s initial participation with ACCA was through the Leinster Members Network and the Irish Practice Network. He became involved in the work of ACCA Ireland at Executive Committee level serving as President of ACCA Ireland during 2002/3. He was elected to ACCA’s governing Council in 2000 and completed his second three year term in May 2006. He also serves on several ACCA committees at both national and global level.
While being heavily involved with and committed to ACCA, Brendan has seen the growth of his firm through three successful mergers, where today LHM Casey McGrath is the largest ACCA practice in Ireland with currently eight partners and seventy staff. He has broad business experience which encompasses the field of audit, insolvency, corporate consultancy and litigation support service.
He has managed to combine a very successful career and busy family life with his commitment to ACCA.
