ACCA LAUNCHES FREE WEBINARS TO EDUCATE ACCOUNTANTS AS INTERNATIONAL BUSINESSES SHIFT TO NEW REPORTING STANDARDS

Diploma in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Attainable, Webinars Start July 23rd

NEW YORK, July 27, 2009 — As the practice of worldwide business accounting moves toward the adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), is offering free webcasts for those interested in achieving an IFRS diploma.  ACCA is a global organization of more than 130,000 credentialed accounting professionals. The hour-long webcasts launch on July 23rd and continue weekly through August 26th.
“CPAs increasingly need to prove they have the new skill-set necessary for employers and clients, and that's exactly what our webcast and diploma program in International Financial Reporting is designed to help them do,” said Paul Costello, Head of U.S.A. and Canada, ACCA. “ACCA is committed to educating accounting professionals and providing them with the tools needed to adapt to the global adoption of IFRS.”

ACCA has partnered with Leveraged Logic™, a provider of educational offerings for financial professionals, to produce the webcast and help prepare those interested in pursuing the International Financial Reporting diploma. Each webcast will be hosted by Bruce Pounder, a widely-recognized expert on IFRS and its impact on U.S. accounting professionals, and will include a live question-and-answer session. Each participant will also earn a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) in accordance with the standards of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA).

Each webcast will include discussions regarding some of the following topics:
• How globalization is creating new career risks for U.S. CPAs and other accounting professionals
• Why the Diploma in International Financial Reporting has emerged as the global accounting credential for experienced professionals
• How the Diploma can help manage the career risks faced in a global economy
"U.S. accounting and financial professionals will need to have globally relevant technical skills in order to compete successfully for career opportunities in the near future,” said Bruce Pounder, President, Leveraged Logic. “ACCA’s IFRS Diploma in International Financial Reporting program is a highly effective way for experienced professionals to prove that they have the necessary skills.”

The International Financial Reporting diploma is designed to enhance the existing credentials of experienced professionals and is an ideal complement to a CPA license. The program approximately requires six months of preparation leading up to a three-hour examination that focuses on IFRS knowledge and skills. It combines a structured course of study in IFRS and the diploma is granted to successful candidates by ACCA. To be eligible for the diploma program, only those financial professionals with a credential such as a CPA or similar experience.
