ACCA PROFESSIONALISM AND ETHICS EVENT IN AZERBAIJAN
ROUND TABLE:
"IFRS IMPLEMENTATION IN AZERBAIJAN: REALITY, PROSPECTIVES AND ETHICAL ASPECTS"
Baku, Azerbaijan, June 20, 2007
The ACCA Representative Office (based in Kiev, Ukraine) together with Chamber of Auditors of Azerbaijan Republic organized a round table discussion to launch the ACCA new qualification at the Aliev Hall, Azerbaijan State Economic University, Baku .
The Special Guests of the event were Prof. Mirdamet Mirsadiq ogly Sadiqov, Azerbaijan State Economic University, Deputy Rector on International Relations and Professor, Dr. Vahid Tapdig Novruzov, Chairman of Chamber of Auditors of Azerbaijan.
The event was attended by around 100 guests including ACCA members, affiliates and some students, ACCA approved employers and partners and some journalists. Prior to the seminar, all the speakers and guests had a tour of the University Museum and learnt more about the history of Azerbaijan
Dr. Vahid Tapdig Novruzov, Chairman of Chamber of Auditors of Azerbaijan was the keynote speaker on ‘Ethics for the Professional Auditor in the Global Environment’ and CAAR initiatives regarding transparency and professionalism in financial reporting.
Andrew Steele, ACCA, Head of Business Development Unit, Middle East and South Asia presented ACCA's IFRS educational approach. He underlined: "The new ACCA Qualification launched this year followed an extensive consultation period with a wide range of stakeholders, reflecting the fact that accounting is a dynamic profession. Professionalism and ethics are at the heart of the new qualification, including a new Professional Accountant examination and a compulsory ethics module. ACCA also offers the Diploma in International Financial Reporting in Russian and I am pleased to report that an examination centre has been established here in Baku."
ACCA Head in Ukraine, Baltic and Caucasus States, Nataliya Vovchuk underlined the importance of the key theme by stating that 'for a professional accountant, ethics is not an option'. Providing a regional perspective, Nataliya went on to provide details of ACCA's CPD system based on the IFAC standards and introduced the exam on ethics designed by ACCA.
Prof. Mirdamet Mirsadiq ogly Sadiqov spoke on Education and Governance, Vali Rahimov, Head of Finance and Economy Department, Chamber of Auditors of Azerbaijan presented on the current implementation stage of IFRS.
The main feature of the event was ACCA – CAAR Memorandum of Understanding Signing. Andrew Steel, Head of Business Development Unit, Middle East and South Asia commented: "ACCA is especially proud of its global accountancy partnerships – currently with over 50 accountancy bodies – and I am pleased to now include the Chamber of Auditors here in Azerbaijan to that distinguished list."
As media partners for the event, the National Azerbaijan TV Channel, Accountancy Weekly all publicised and reported on the conference.
