ACCA ROMANIA PROFESSIONALISM AND ETHICS CONFERENCE

Over 100 professionals from finance, accounting and audit attended a conference held by ACCA Romania entitled Driving Global Standards through Professionalism and Ethics . Notable guests at the event, held in September 2007 at the Athenee Palace Hilton Hotel, Bucharest , included Ion Mihailescu, president of the Chamber of Financial Auditors of Romania; Catalin Navrik, executive director of the Employer's Association in Romania ; and a representative of the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises in Romania .
After an introduction from Andreia Manea, head of ACCA Romania , delegates heard from Ion Mihailescu, and from Stefan Bunea , from the Body of Expert and Licensed Accountants of Romania. They both congratulated ACCA on its work in local markets and reiterated the good relationship ACCA has with both institutions.
ACCA deputy president Richard Aitken Davies then went on to detail ACCA's approach towards professionalism and ethics, both as a professional body and as part of the new ACCA Qualification, underlining the fact that the conference was one of a series of events organised around the world by ACCA. Presentations then followed from Alexandra Lazar, deputy director, Accounting Regulation Directorate, Ministry of Economy and Finance; Bill Bowman, deputy senior partner, KPMG Romania; Albert Hrabak, advisor on Strengthening the Accounting and Audit Profession in Romania , Ministry of Economy and Finance; and Sundeep Takwani, ACCA head of ethics and regulation. Debate covered the regulatory requirements linked to professionalism and ethics, and the current attitude of companies, individuals and other professional institutions.
As media partners for the event, the weekly magazine Capital, and Money Channel TV both publicised and reported on the conference. Matilda Crossman of BPP Professional Education, also a conference partner and one of the three approved learning partners in Bucharest, gave a presentation on the way in which accountants can be guided and taught in order to obtain ethical skills and knowledge.
