In this series of interviews, ACCA explores each of the imperatives for business and the accountancy profession as identified in the Drivers of Change research.
An imperative for business is to develop a curious, experimental and adaptable mindset. Building a 'curious' culture is a critical success factor in an increasingly complex and fast-changing environment. This implies nurturing an environment that is open to external ideas and in which participants are encouraged to forge a network of strong working relationships across the entire business ecosystem.
An imperative for the accountancy profession is to establish trust and ethical leadership. The profession needs to be seen to be addressing clear public concerns. According to the research, there is a perception that the profession could do more to highlight and prevent everything from small-scale financial irregularities through to the major systematic failures that helped cause the global financial crisis and the ensuing economic uncertainty.
