GLOBAL FORUM FOR GOVERNANCE, RISK AND PERFORMANCE

Adrian Berendt, executive director of LCH Clearnet introduces the Global Forum for Governance, Risk and Performance, which will focus on how accountants can support ethical, sustainable business, and enhance their value to employers. The forum's work will be used to try to influence policymakers and regulators to create an environment for responsible, profitable business.

Adrian has been an active member of ACCA’s Financial Services Network Panel for the past seven years and was its chair in 2010. He has been heavily involved in ACCA initiatives on issues relating to the credit crunch, including contributing to papers and lectures on the topic.  He was also a member of ACCA’s Research and Corporate Governance committees.

Following a number of years in consulting, Adrian is now an executive director with LCH Clearnet, the leading independent clearing house, in a business development position. This is somewhat of a change from helping financial institutions to improve their financial controls and accounting systems - it just goes to show what an aging accountant can do!

Adrian has a BSc in Economics from the University of Wales. His family of four young children occupy most of his spare time but he still finds time to play cricket and sings at any opportunity.

Paul Moxey
Head of corporate governance and risk management

Paul is responsible for ACCA’s policies on corporate governance and risk management and is a leading contributor to our responses to global developments in these areas. He participates in committees and projects on corporate governance and risk around the world, has spoken at major conferences and other events in five continents, and written numerous articles.

A qualified accountant and MBA, Paul has worked as company secretary and group financial controller of UK public companies and as a consultant in governance and risk. The Department of Health commissioned him to write much of its corporate governance guidance for hospitals and other health bodies. He worked directly with many of them, helping them to introduce effective governance and risk management.

Paul has a particular interest in the behavioural aspects of governance and risk, and has facilitated many workshops for teams from board level downwards, in self-assessing their internal control and risk systems.
