MiFID2 is a material updating of the earlier EU directive that came into force in late 2007. In the new directive the European Commission has sought to tackle aspects of the directive that were unsuccessful as well as making adjustment for changes in the market in the last five years. The changes will affect all MiFID firms, including those whose trading was largely outside MiFID instruments. MiFID2 is due in force in 2014.
