ACCA - The global body for professional accountants

The Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and the ASEAN Federation of Accountants (AFA) will be organising the 1st MIA International Accountants Conference and the 17th AFA Conference at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on 2-3 November 2011.

Over 2,500 participants are expected, including professionals from the worlds of accounting, finance, business, and government. The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Converge, Transform, Sustain: Towards World Class Excellence’.

Speakers expected at the conference include: the chief executive of the CIMB ASEAN Research Institute, John Pang; the director of finance of ASEAN’s Economic Community Department’s Industry and Infrastructure Directorate, Dr. Somsak Pipoppinyo; chairman of the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board, Mohammad Faiz Azmi; Audit Oversight Board Executive chairman, Nik Mohd Hasyudeen Yusoff; and Japan’s Financial Accounting Standards Foundation officer, Tomo Sekiguchi.

The plenary and workshop sessions will feature more than 40 experts and business leaders discussing the role of the professional accountant as a value creator for sustainable organisations, financial markets, and economies. Plenary session topics include: ‘ASEAN capital market integration and its impact; the sovereign debt crisis and its implications for ASEAN; IFRS convergence and audit oversight boards; and responsible business – better companies, better societies.
