ACCA is hosting a policy event to discuss the findings of its recent publication ‘Parliamentary Financial Scrutiny in Hard Times’ on Thursday 19 April

The report reviews the measures that have been taken to improve parliamentary financial scrutiny, considers lessons learnt and what still needs to be done across four countries: UK, Australia, Canada and Ireland.

The evidence in the report suggests that financial scrutiny may not be taken seriously enough nor seen as strategically important.

This policy event is both timely and topical given the significance of public spending, severity of austerity measures and continuing sovereign debt problems.

A range of expert speakers are on hand to discuss the report’s findings and way forward.

They are:

  • Gillian Fawcett, head of public sector, ACCA
  • Dr Ruth Fox, director the Parliament and Government Programme, Hansard Society
  • Tim Gilling, acting executive director, Centre for Public Scrutiny (CfPS)
  • Gillian Rollason, researcher, ACCA
  • David Walker, broadcaster and journalist (who will be chairing the session)
  • Kitty Ussher, former Labour MP and Minister

Venue

ACCA, 29 Lincoln’s Inn Fields, London, WC2A 3EE.
