CV writing and job interview tips; excelling in exams; the route to membership and the benefits of it were all discussed at an event held in Doha, Qatar, by ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants).
The sessions, held on Wednesday 25 September, were given by Gavin Brown, senior partner at BDO Qatar; Lorraine Holleway, financial controller at Shell Qatar, Ryan Lewis, associate director for Michael Page Qatar; Faisal Mahmoud, Zam Zam Publishing; and the ACCA Middle East team.
Faisal Hajri, CFO at Qatar Foundation, said: 'I am delighted to learn that Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in Doha is keen to instil in their students concepts such as market employability, besides the overall benefits of the qualification, to help candidates differentiate in a competitive world, and also inculcating ethical conduct and behaviour of professional accountants. The prime need of the hour is , for professions and professionals to be guided by a scrupulous code of conduct and to adhere to global best practices. It is imperative that these behaviours and standards originate at the student level; it is encouraging to learn that more Qatari students are moving towards professional qualifications these days. I wish ACCA all the best in reaching out to students in Qatar.'
The event also provided an opportunity for networking with fellow students and ACCA members. Participants also joined ACCA’s team in congratulating students who achieved outstanding results in June 2013 exams.
Ritu Nanda, head of ACCA Qatar, said: 'This event was held to ensure our students are ready for starting their professional careers once they are qualified, and how to prepare for the next chapter in their lives.
