On 5 September 2013, Universiti of Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the UBD campus

Dr. Joyce Teo, Dean, Faculty of Business, Economics and Policy Studies; and Dr. Petr Polak, Program Leader of Accounting and Finance represented UBD in signing the MoU. ACCA was represented by Ms. Lucia Real Martin, Director of Emerging Markets Asia and Mr. Reza Ali, Head of Emerging Markets Asia at ACCA. 

The Faculty of Business, Economics and Policy Studies of Universiti Brunei Darussalam is one of the most esteemed business faculties in the country. It has a reputation as a leader in the areas of business and management education, economics and accountancy education. 

Founded in 1904, ACCA is the global body for professional accountants. ACCA currently has 162,000 members and 428,000 students in 173 countries. It works with over 8,500 Approved Employers worldwide. Through its public interest remit, ACCA promotes the appropriate regulation of accounting and conducts relevant research to ensure that accountancy continues to grow in reputation and influence. It believes that accountants bring value to economies in all stages of development and seeks to develop capacity in the profession and encourage the adoption of global standards.

The MoU involves providing support to UBD’s Faculty of Business, Economics, and Policy Studies programmes for exemptions from ACCA programmes; conducting joint seminars, conferences, research projects and publications; and working in partnership to advance the accounting and finance education in Brunei Darussalam. 

'The Memorandum of Understanding highlights the synergies between UBD and ACCA. It will provide a pathway for our students to gain a global professional accounting qualification. Both UBD and ACCA share a commitment to providing opportunity and access to quality education to students in Brunei. We look forward to working together to build capacity and support Brunei’s finance and accountancy sector, as well as Brunei’s economic development,' said Dr. Joyce Teo, Dean, Faculty of Business, Economics and Public Policy, UBD.
