Organisation details: Grant Thornton Camelsa, a member firm of Grant Thornton International, is a well-established firm of chartered accountants and business development consultants, based in Zimbabwe. The firm offers a team of specialist consultants in audit and assurance services, tax compliance, advisory services and business advisory services.

Managing partner, Reggie Saruchera, leads two equity partners and a staff of 70 at one of Grant Thornton’s most recent African member firms. The firm is driven by its ability to attract, develop and retain world-class personnel and Saruchera is clear about the qualities he looks for when recruiting finance professionals: ‘Qualifications; the ability to articulate accounting, audit, tax and finance-related issues; professional conduct; experience and professional presentation,’ he states.

With a regular annual intake of ACCA trainees, Saruchera understands how ACCA trainees and members contribute towards his firm achieving its goals. ‘ACCA members have a much broader understanding of business-related issues covering audit, financial reporting, taxation and advisory, and have depth of knowledge on strategic issues,’ he explains. ‘The coverage of the ACCA Qualification syllabus is now much broader and the syllabus is updated on a regular basis to meet the expectations of business, industry and the accountancy profession at large.’

As a member firm of Grant Thornton International, Grant Thornton Camelsa is committed to excellence in training and continuous professional development (CPD). How do they achieve this? ‘By offering on-the-job training; monitoring achievement of ACCA’s competence requirements; mentorship and close supervision,’ explains Saruchera. ‘Our trainees and members also participate in internal training programmes as well as CPD seminars organised by the local ACCA office.’

Saruchera looks to the future: ‘ACCA remains one of our integrated affiliations. We plan to continue promoting our well-performing ACCA members to positions of managers, directors and partners.’
