Students have been telling us how much they love the flexibility of our new four session exam calendar.

There are a number of ways you can benefit from the added flexibility of our new additional March and September exam sessions, depending on your circumstances and priorities.

Following consultation and research, we have created these example students to give you some ideas of how you might wish to plan your studies around the four exam sessions.

Yasmin: steady and assured

Danny: high achiever

Blessing: rapid re-sitter

Riaz: dedicated employee

Lesley: unpredictable lifestyle

Students like Yasmin have told us that they will use four exam sessions to spread their studies evenly throughout the year. They are keen to progress in their studies as quickly as possible, but also know that if they take too many exams in one session it could jeopardise their chances of success.

In order to maximise their chances of success, they may want to concentrate on one exam at a time, to gain the in depth knowledge they need to confidently pass first time.

This approach means that Yasmin will need to plan ahead and start to study for the next exam even though she is already waiting on results. By using the dual session booking facility, Yasmin will always get the lowest available exam entry rate.

Example study options

  • Full-time study with Approved Learning Partner
  • Part-time study with Approved Learning Partner, plus ALP Mock days
  • Self-study using Approved Content Provider materials and question and answer banks
  • ACCA self-study guides

Danny: high achiever

Students in full time education like Danny are likely to use the four exam sessions to take on additional exams over the course of the year. Danny is confident in his abilities and has consistently gained good pass marks.

Even taking on one additional exam per year will be a big commitment, but it will be worth it as it will ultimately lead to him completing the qualification quicker.

Danny will use the Exam Planner to map out his exam plans for the year ahead.

Blessing: rapid re-sitter

blessing-thumb

For students like Blessing, who will tend to stick to the June and December sessions, four exam sessions will mean that if he’s unfortunate enough to fail an exam, he will be able to take the re-sit much quicker.

This will be a significant benefit as it will allow him to focus on his weaker areas while the information is still fresh in his mind rather than feeling like he is starting from scratch 6 months later. Students who took a re-sit in September 2015 were more successful, so we know that re-sitting at the next session will increase Blessing’s chances of passing and allow him to get back on track with his studies.

Blessing can also use the ACCA Retake Guides to help him understand where he went wrong and form a structured approach to help succeed in the re-sit.

Example study Options

  • Retake course from Approved Learning Provider
  • ALP Mock days

Riaz: dedicated employee

Students like Riaz often need to juggle their studies with a demanding job, and competing work deadlines. For Riaz, the first quarter of the year is his busiest time, so he’ll use this time to plan ahead and will make full use of the exam sessions in June, September and December.

Riaz will plan out what he wants to achieve in January and will book exams for the June and September using the dual session booking facility.

Lesley: unpredictable lifestyle

As well as study and work commitments, many students have important events in their day-to-day lives that need to be factored in. Lesley is an example of a student who has a busy year coming up.

As well as starting a new job, Lesley is getting married and also moving into a new house in the summer and so will be using the flexibility offered by four exam sessions to work around these events and not interrupt her progress.

Lesley still intends to complete three exams this year; she is thinking about taking one exam in March, one at the September session and one in December, but knows that she can use the flexible exam entry model to make firm decisions nearer to the entry deadlines.

  • Online study with Approved Learning Partner
  • Self-study using Approved Content Provider materials and question and answer banks
