Georgia - Professional Accountancy education and service quality assurance

Georgian International Conference: "Professional Accountancy Education and Service Quality Assurance: Experience. Reality. Prospects"

On May 28 - 29, 2008 the Conference Hall of Tbilisi, Sheraton Metekhi Palace Hotel, hosted an International Conference with the main topic: "Professional Accountancy Education and Service Quality Assurance: Experience. Reality. Prospects".

The Conference lasted for two days. On the first day session the speakers discussed the issues of Professional Education of Auditors - Local and International trends. On the second day the main topic of second day session was "Professional Organizations and Service Quality Assurance".

The main organizers of this conference were Georgian Federation of Professional Accountants and Auditors (GFPAA) and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). On the first day of the conference Revaz Dzadzamia, the president of GFPAA, shared the experience of GFPAA in elaboration of certification programmes for accountants and auditors. Roger Acton, the director of ACCA Europe, delivered a speech on Audit Liability. He stressed that: "…the reform of auditor liability should be balanced and reflect real nature of audit function and relationship between auditor and stakeholder"

Among other guest speakers were Dmitry A. Yakovenko (Russia), President of the Institute of Professional Accountants of Samara Region, with the speech on topic "The issues of professional ethics and public trust to accounting profession", Dr. Masum TÜRKER (Turkey), Chairman of Turkish Auditing Standards Board, with the speech on topic "Quality assurance system in accountancy profession and Turkish experience", Sergei Tšistjakov (Estonia), Member of Management Board, Estonian Board of Auditors
Chairman of Professional Qualifications Committee with the speech on topic "Auditing Profession in Estonia - from Selfregulation to Co-Regulation", Magi Nargizyan (Armenia), Representative of Association of Accountants and Auditors of Armenia, with the speech on topic "Association of Accountants and Auditors of Armenia and its condition at present day", Jon Hooper (UK), International Relations Manager at Financial Reporting Council, UK, covering the topic ""International models of auditor regulation".
