Taking a business management degree was about keeping my options open, but by my third year I was pretty convinced that the finance side of things was for me. Accountancy particularly appealed as I enjoyed looking beyond the numbers to understand what they mean in the context of the business world.
I completed my ACCA training at UBS and I'm now working at BA. I'm part of the team looking after budgets and revenue for our top 10 clients and also for our marketing. It's a front-line role where you get involved in decisionmaking and work closely with other teams. We could be assessing the viability of a new deal, looking for ways to generate more revenue from an existing customer or making sure that an ad campaign has delivered the projected return on investment.
It's a unique time to be working in finance as every company is trying to make their money work harder and find new ways to attract customers. Absolutely everything is being challenged so I'm learning a huge amount. It's particularly good to hear from my Manager, who qualified 8 years ago, that she is still constantly learning new things.
