Are you interested in becoming the ACCA Undergraduate of the Year?

Accountants are important to business. The last year has demonstrated just how robust the sector is and the value that accountants can bring to businesses of all sizes. They play a leading role in promoting confidence in business models and practices, and developing successful, sustainable businesses. This is why ACCA is championing 'Accountants for Business' and by making it our global theme we aim to show the world just how valuable accountants are for business.

If you can demonstrate in no more than 1000 words what 'Accountants for Business' means to you then you could be in for a chance to win up to £1000**.

We're looking for entries that demonstrate:

  • a sound understanding of the roles of accountants
  • the issues businesses face in the current climate
  • the ways in which accountants can add value
  • the issues that ACCA are supporting

All entries should be sent electronically to studentpromotions@accaglobal.com or, by post to Student Promotions, 29 Lincoln's Inn Fields London WC2A 3EE. The closing date for entries received by email is midnight 26th February 2010 and for post is 12 February 2010. Students should leave their full name, post and email address, contact telephone number; details of their undergraduate degree and University attended**. Winners will be announced on 31st March 2010 and the following prizes will be awarded:

1st Prize - £1000
2nd Prize - £500
3rd Prize - £250

Terms and Conditions for ACCA's Undergraduate of the Year Competition


1. The ACCA Undergraduate of the year Competition (the "Competition") is organised by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants of 29 Lincoln's Inn Fields, London WC2A 3EE ("ACCA").

2. By entering the Competition you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.

3. The Competition is open to all UK residents aged 16 or over, studying an undergraduate degree at a UK university. Employees of ACCA, their friends or family, or anyone connected with the Competition or prize will not be eligible to participate.

4. Entry into the Competition is free of charge.

5. You may only enter the Competition once. Entries of joint ownership will be considered by ACCA on the condition that all entrants agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.

6. The essay's title is "Accountants for Business" and must appear on the front page of your entry. The essay must be no more than 1000 words in total. ACCA reserves the right to disqualify entries that do not conform to this word count.

7. All entries must be typed and submitted either by email, as a Word document sent as an attachment to studentpromotions@accaglobal.com or, by post to Students Promotions, 29 Lincoln's Inn Fields, London WC2A 3EE, UK.  Posted entries must be received by ACCA by close of business 12 February 2010. Hand written entries will not be considered.

8. Entries must include the following details: full name; postal and email address; contact telephone number; name of your undergraduate degree and University attended (This information will not be included in the word count stipulated in paragraph 6).

9. By entering the Competition you give permission for ACCA to publish your name, town and prize in selected advertising media of ACCA's choice.

10. By submitting an essay into the Competition, entrants represent and warrant that the essay is their own original unaided work, has not been previously published and that their entry does not infringe copyright or any other rights of any person.

11. The closing date for entries is at midnight on 26 February 2010. In the event that the closing date is extended, which ACCA may do in its absolute discretion, an announcement will be published on the ACCA UK graduate website.

12. The Competition will be judged by a panel of internal judges from ACCA UK.

13. The prizes in the Competition will be as follows:

1st Prize - £1000
2nd Prize - £500
3rd Prize - £250

14. The prizes will be awarded to the selected winners, subject to verification of their University status by ACCA.

15. Selected winners of the Competition will be announced on 31 March 2010. This information will be published on the ACCA UK graduate website.

16. The selected winners will be notified by email and invited to accept the offered prize. The prizes offered will be given as cheques and are not transferable or exchangeable.

17. If a notified winner does not respond within 14 calendar days of notification, another winner will be selected from the remaining entries and contacted as previously stated. Once a subsequent winner has been selected the previous winner's entitlement to receive a prize will end. In the unlikely event that no entries are received before the closing date the prize will not be awarded.

18. In the event of any dispute regarding the Competition, the decision of ACCA shall be binding and no correspondence or discussion shall be entered into.

19. ACCA will not be liable for any circumstances beyond their control that prevent a prize being taken up by a recipient.

20. ACCA may disqualify you from winning the prize if it has reasonable grounds to suspect you may be in breach of these terms and conditions and/or your participation in the Competition may be fraudulent or otherwise unlawful.

21. ACCA reserves the right to, in its absolute discretion, declare the Competition void should it consider that there are no entries reaching the required standard, whereupon it can award prizes or not, as it thinks fit.
