ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) Hong Kong hosted the 20th ACCA Community Day today at Chater Road Sunday Pedestrian Zone in Central. Bringing together hundreds of participants from accountancy firms, multinational companies, corporations and institutions, this exciting rickshaw race competition not only illustrated the rich heritage of Hong Kong, but also helped foster cohesion between financial industries and the Hong Kong community, with charitable causes.

This year’s event raised over HK$1.4 million, a record-breaking amount, with donations going to Hong Chi Association, Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation, and Jubilee Ministries. Since 1997, the ACCA Charitable Foundation Limited has raised a total of over HK$18 million through its signature annual event and helped many charitable organisations to support society’s needy in past years.

Delivering remarks at the opening ceremony, Alice Yip, Chairman of ACCA Hong Kong said, ‘Since the establishment of ACCA Hong Kong in 1950, we have been supporting our members so that they can tackle the challenges they face throughout their career and that we can grow together. ACCA will continue our commitment in empowering professionals to deliver their best, and developing the accounting and finance professionals the world needs.’

Yip added, ‘The theme for this year’s event is “20 Years of Love Transcending Decades”, ACCA has clearly shown our care to the society throughout the two decades. ACCA’s commitment is not limited to the profession’s development. We are also committed to giving love and care to the less fortunate in our community and inspiring the others to do the same. We are also very glad that our event is accredited as one of the celebration activities for “HKSAR 20th Anniversary”. Today is a great day for us to celebrate these special occasions together!’

Officiating at the event for the tenth year was Guest of Honour Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, GBS, JP, Acting Chief Secretary for Administration. Cheung said, ‘It gives me great pleasure to join the 20th anniversary celebration of this flagship charitable event. ACCA has served as both a shining example and an important driving force in nurturing a caring, compassionate and inclusive culture for Hong Kong. I salute ACCA Hong Kong for its corporate citizen spirit, and the hundreds and thousands of professional accountants who have been working hard to promote an economically vibrant and a compassionate Hong Kong.’

Paul Chan Mo-po, GBS, MH, JP, Secretary for Development, HKSAR Government, also the past chairman of ACCA Hong Kong as well as the initiator of Community Day event, said, “I recalled when we held the ACCA Community Day for the first time twenty years ago, we have only raised about more than one hundred thousand dollars, but it was proved to be a great start. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to friends from accounting industry whom contribute to the society with their professional knowledge and time, and pass on your own blessings to other people in the community.”
