Lim Lay Lian
director and co-founder, FP Consultants International Pte Ltd and TNG Group Pte Ltd, Singapore
Lim Lay Lian deliberated between the qualifications provided by various bodies, but chose ACCA because it offered her 'a practical and broad-based training, as well as several options to specialise at the advanced stage in areas such as audit, taxation and commerce.' She is proud to be an ACCA member and sees it as a 'proactive, professional and prestigious global organisation.'
Lim Lay Lian has made a number of significant changes during her career - starting out in tax, then switching to insurance, and finally selecting business consultancy and financial planning. In 2004 she co-founded two companies: FP Consultants International Pte Limited and TNG Group Pte Limited. She was also the founding chair of Singapore Women in Finance (an interest group of the Singapore Business and Professional Women Association) and is also a lecturer in accounting, taxation and financial planning in her spare time.
She feels that recent events in the industry have affected the integrity of the accounting profession. Lim Lay Lian states that 'accountants of the future should be proactively involved as business advisors to their companies, helping to shape the strategic direction of their company instead of playing a historical role as record keeper.'
