Mohajir Satanam
Mohajir Satanam is incredibly proud to be an ACCA member: 'It has provided me with a rewarding career and has created many interesting opportunities throughout my working life,' he said.
ACCA's first class reputation as an international qualification encouraged Mohajir to undertake the course. 'It was extremely challenging, yet flexible at the same time,' he said.
Mohajir started his career at Pricewaterhouse in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, working in tax and business advisory services as an associate tax consultant. Three years later he was offered a job in Vietnam with a large Malaysian company - IJM Corporation. 'It was an offer I could not refuse. Vietnam was the most exciting country in South East Asia in the mid 1990s, with tremendous changes taking place,' said Mohajir. Mohajir moved to Vietnam September 1995, arriving there just two days after his wedding!
Mohajir finds Vietnam to be an exciting country to work in. 'There are continuous changes being made to the legal, investment and financial framework and environment. With these changes come challenges. No professional qualification could prepare you for this better than ACCA,' he said.
In July 2002, Mohajir joined Syngenta Vietnam, a global leader in agribusiness, as Finance Director. 'I felt this was a good move as Vietnam is an agricultural-based economy. However, it was challenging moving to a multinational corporation where shareholder focus is very strong. The benefits have been amazing and I have learned an awful lot,' he said.
In the future, Mohajir hopes move to another country within the Asia Pacific region and undertake a more senior finance role. He credits the ACCA qualification for spurring him on and believes working in a different culture has brought out the best in him. 'The ACCA qualification gives you tremendous self-belief and confidence as a result of having passed a very challenging and demanding professional qualification. It also makes for a smooth transfer to another country. The letters "ACCA", give instant recognition wherever I go.'
