Minimum Competence Requirements

To qualify as a Certified Accounting Technician (CAT), you must achieve at least 10 units of competence, including:

  • 3 Mandatory units of competence
  • a minimum of 7 other units of competence

To achieve competence in any given unit you must obtain sufficient work experience in all, or the specified number, of elements of competence listed. You will be deemed to have achieved a unit of competence if you meet the standards set for that unit of competence without close supervision or regular instruction from your supervisor. You will need to check how many elements need to be achieved for each unit by referring to your technician training record (TTR).
