International business attitudes to corruption - survey 2006
This research report, published by the security firm Control Risks and Simmons & Simmons, concludes that corruption continues to be a huge international issue for companies. 350 senior executives from 7 different were interviewed for the study and it found that overall, businesses in Hong Kong were the most affected by corruption, with UK firms experiencing the least.
The report concluded that the corruption situation is actually getting worse, rather than better. Nearly 43% of respondents believe that their business has lost money in the last 5 years due to a competitor paying a bribe. This figure has worsened since the survey was last carried out in 2002. The report also found that:
- More business people say corruption is likely to get worse, not better
- Widespread ignorance of legislation on foreign bribery
- Companies are trying to fight back against corrupt practices
