Insurers call for social and environmental responsibility
Companies are urged by insurers in a position paper published by the ABI to put social and environmental responsibility at the heart of their business decision making and develop best practice in narrative reporting.
The Association of British Insurers, which represents investors owning one-fifth of the UK stock market, called on companies in late 2006 to attach greater importance to non-financial issues and give investors more useful information about them in their reporting.
The position paper also stressed the importance of managing and acknowledging publicly the social, environmental and ethical risks that companies face.
