- Swedish Government announces mandatory sustainability reporting for state owned companies
- The Swedish Government announced in December that all 55 state owned companies in Sweden will have to file an annual sustainability report based on the Global Reporting Initiative (G3) Guidelines before the 31 March each year, from 2009.
- Standard & Poor calls for improved disclosures on environmental liabilities in extractive sector
- Rating agency Standard and Poor's has called for the use of standardised terminology for the disclosure of environmental liabilities and decommissioning costs for extractive sector companies (mining, chemicals and oil and gas companies), after it accused European companies in these sectors of currently having poor standards of disclosure on these issues.
- FairPensions survey finds that 75% of top 20 fund managers failing on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) disclosures
- The FairPensions survey, called Fund Manager Responsibility Survey 2007, which looked at the top 20 fund managers operating in the UK, which collectively have £7 trillion in assets under management, found that 75% do not disclose detailed policies on environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues in their investment decisions.

- New Carbon standard launched at the London Stock Exchange
- The new standard, called the Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS), is a global benchmark standard for project-based voluntary greenhouse gas emission reductions and removals. It aims to provide a new and much needed quality assurance for certification of credible voluntary offsets.
- The Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change publishes guidance for electricity companies on climate change reporting
- The Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC), a collaboration between pension funds and asset managers representing assets of more than €3.5 trillion ($4.9 trillion), published guidelines to help electricity utilities report their climate change risks and opportunities.
- HSBC launches climate index
- HSBC has launched the world’s largest climate change, to track those companies that make money from fighting climate change, such as wind turbine and solar panel manufacturers and biofuel companies.
- Merrill Lynch and Trucost launch an index to track carbon footprint
- Merrill Lynch and Trucost have launched an index which tracks blue chip European companies with the best 'carbon footprints'
- Representatives from around the world agree to collaborate on initiative to stimulate management of carbon markets
- Thirteen representatives from the EU, US, Canada and New Zealand agreed to this initative at a meeting held in October 2007 in Lisbon, Portugal.
