Social and Environmental Committee
The Social and Environmental Committee was formed in September 1999. Its aim is to bring together key players in the environmental and social fields to promote the most pressing and relevant issues of the day with respect to the accountancy profession. Professor Jan Bebbington, (who is also Vice-Chair (Scotland) of the Sustainable Development Commission) and who worked in the Centre for Social and Environmental Accounting Research at the University of St Andrews chairs the Committee.
Terms of reference include:
- to identify and monitor existing standards, legislation and reporting guidelines
- to produce, where applicable, committee-generated position papers
- to formulate ACCA responses to discussion papers, exposure drafts and similar documents issued for public comment by government and other organisations
- to develop a programme of activities which will combine the interests of accountancy and social and environmental issues.
Members meet 3 or 4 times a year, with smaller working parties meeting more often throughout the year on various projects. This Web page will be updated with our progress and with information on any reports or papers we may produce.
