The global body for professional accountants

An ACCA Glasgow & West of Scotland Network Event

An accountant or lawyer’s role is not just about technical skills. If you are in practice you will collaborate with clients as a trusted adviser, while if you are in the corporate or public sectors you will often be seen as a business partner within the organisation. In both cases soft skills such as selling and communication are crucial to both personal and business success.

ACCA Scotland is delighted to be partnering with Alan Mackie of Sandler Training ( on the topic Selling for Non-Selling Professionals. This event aims to support professional advisers to develop their skills whether they are employed in industry / commerce or public practice.

Few professional advisers relish the sales aspect of their career and many organisations:

  • struggle to grow because no one owns ‘sales’
  • have partners or senior management who feel really uncomfortable in the role of ‘sales’
  • waste huge amounts of time and energy on really inefficient ways of finding new clients. Often sharing vast amounts of expertise only for that to prove fruitless or worse still for that knowledge to aid the ‘competition’
  • work hard at developing new clients but the conversation ends with ‘I need to think it over’ or ‘leave it with me’, and it never goes anywhere.

Alan will look at what causes these problems and more importantly what we can do to remain consummate professionals but also win that key new client.
