This role relies on a mix of technology understanding and commercial acumen. Traditionally the technology approach tends to be product led, and the BVA specialist will bring an important solution-led customer driven focus to the product characteristics.

Key to this is being able to effectively define the client-specific business value improvement that a product or service can deliver. As a start this requires being able to perform a detailed assessment of operational processes and understand status quo. And thereafter to apply business, technical and financial analysis to explain the value of potential enhancements from the technology.

In effect this involves being an expert at developing a compelling technology business case that aligns strategic, business and technical objectives with appropriate solutions based on market requirements.

As a BVA specialist, you would be able to quantify the pros and cons of different ways to achieve a given client solution, and recommend a particular technology option by evaluating both financial returns (eg cost savings) and non-financial returns (eg operational/reputation risks).
