Trade in services set to play an important role in the post-pandemic economic recovery, say global accountancy bodies ACCA and CA ANZ

Both bodies welcome the recent free trade agreement between the UK and Australia and call for professional services to be a priority in future UK trade deals.

Strategic alliance partners ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and Chartered Accountants ANZ (CA ANZ) have welcomed the recently agreed free trade deal between the two countries.

Helen Brand, ACCA’s chief executive, says: ‘This deal cements a key step in the UK’s path for further global trade deals with other Asia Pacific jurisdictions.

‘We particularly welcome the joint commitment to work together, along with other partner nations, on innovation in services and finance. Linked to this will be the development of green finance and its role in helping meet net-zero.

‘ACCA’s collaboration with CA ANZ, KPMG and Deakin Business School in the Deakin University Integrated Reporting Centre, along with the recent launch of the Value Reporting Foundation, will help both nations tackle the challenges ahead in the post-pandemic period. They will also help create fertile ground for innovative research and development, job creation and economic growth.’

Ainslie van Onselen, chief executive, CA ANZ adds: ‘This deal provides the opportunity for accounting professionals to work across UK and Australia to gain the global experience and diversity of thought that is essential for better outcomes for their clients and strong commercial growth.

‘The flow of talent and skills not only builds stronger economies for both countries but ensures that the accountancy profession remains synonymous with broad experience, global expertise and equipped to make a difference in any market.’

Helen Brand concludes: ‘The accountancy profession is both local and global, and for ACCA and CA ANZ we believe this deal will also have a positive knock-on effect on market access for services professionals. Trade in services is set to play an important role in the post-pandemic economic recovery, and we urge the UK government to make professional services a priority in future trade deals.’
