In 2014, multi-task questions (MTQs) will be introduced into the ACCA Qualification Papers F1–F3 and the equivalent Foundation level exams (Papers FAB, FMA and FFA). The changes will be introduced into computer-based exams (CBEs) from 26 February and the paper exams from June 2014.
MTQs contain a series of tasks for students to complete – tasks which relate to one or more scenarios. These tasks can be made up of different question types – multiple choice, multiple response, multiple response matching, number entry, hotspots and gapfill questions. All of these question types, apart from hotspots and gapfill, are used within the existing exams available by CBE.
It should be noted that between the period of 1 February and 24 February 2014, the CBEs for Foundation level exams (Papers MA1, MA2, FMA, FA1, FA2, FFA and FAB) and ACCA Qualification Papers F1, F2 and F3 exams will continue to be based on the 2013 Syllabus and Study Guides. The 2014 Syllabus and Study Guides will not be examined until 26 February when the new question types are introduced.
There are a range of resources available to support you through these changes for Papers F1–F3 and FAB, FMA and FFA:
Showcases
Showcases provide an overview of how the new MTQs will look in the CBE environment, how they should be answered, and how they are marked. We do encourage you to look at these showcases before attempting any MTQs.
Full specimen exams
Full specimen exams (which were previously known as pilots or demos), reflecting the new exam formats and so incorporating both MTQ and other question types, are available on ACCA’s global website.
Additional sets of MTQs
As well as the full specimen exams and the showcases, we are also providing an additional set of MTQs for each of the papers, in the form of an MTQ-only section from an exam. These will give you additional opportunities to become familiar with and practise the new question type.
Technical articles and videos
Technical articles have been written to support learning providers and students with added insight into the exam. These articles are written by the examining team and we recommend you read them to help with exam preparation.
As additional support for students, there are also three videos that may be helpful in giving some practical advice about tackling MTQs:
