Bringing art therapists to people with autistics or with special education need to help them realise their full potential
Read moreIntroduction
A relatively young NGO, AnAn International Education Foundation Hong Kong has taken pride in the last decade in our dedicated focus on the well-being of people with autism and special education needs (SEN). We endeavor to provide professional rehabilitation education services, with special attention on their social education, and help them realize their full potential. We strive to connect the autistic and SEN community with the larger society of Hong Kong and empower them with equal development opportunities. Until recently we are also venturing into new areas of social innovation projects that will bring synergy with our core competencies so that we can broaden our scope of services and impact more under-served communities.

Project objectives
2020 is a year of the pandemic. The damages as we witness are beyond the immense economic losses. Many people suffer some kind of desperation, depression and isolation due to the prolonged implementation of social distancing. This community art project aims to reconnect people through the power of colours and the stories of the autistics as they express them in their creative world. The sense of connectedness is the new energy and impetus that’s much in lack of to empower the community to embrace the pandemic challenges and remain positive for our future.
In general, people with autism are also gifted with good artistic potential. The project will partner with a professional art therapist to lead a group of SEN students to express their inner world through the creation of community paintings.
The project will colour a back lane of Quarry Bay, allowing people living and working in the area a pleasant “breather”, a place to relax and enjoy some quiet moments in life.

This is a year long project, where several sessions will be conducted. In each session, some 20 SEN students will be invited to participate and design an artwork under the guidance of a professional art therapist. Their work will be painted on the rolling shutters of our social enterprise A&D Mart in Quarry Bay. The painting will be on display on the shutters for a period of time until the next session.
The day of painting the rolling shutters will also be a community fun day where our participants, their parents, people living and working in the neighborhood will be treated with food and drinks at A&D Mart. Volunteers will be recruited to help out and witness the work by our participants.

Therefore, there is a great need in providing appropriate relaxation intervention service to eliminate the negative impact of anxiety and stress in their latter part of life.
Anxiety and poor sleep also poses a threat to elderly’s physical and mental health. Managing anxiety and stress therefore becomes vital for maintaining elderly’s overall health and wellness; and we have brand new solution for elderly’s mental health.
In the past, it’s not easy to track the stress and anxiety level in the real time session. But now, with the use of wearable brain device and the special app in iOS and Android platform, the track record of relaxation and attention graphs along with ongoing relaxation activities can be reviewed in the individual account of the participants.
