ACCA launches Community Day 2020 – Hong Kong’s first-ever virtual rickshaw race

AR (Augmented Reality) technology enabled excitement amid pandemic while helping needy in local community

ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) Hong Kong is excited to announce the launch of its Community Day 2020 – an online rickshaw race starting today. With the use of Augmented Reality (AR) camera, the virtual rickshaw race will allow users to experience the excitement and fun amid this difficult time, and with a charitable cause to help the needy in the local community. The AR Game will resemble the physical activity that we have been hosting on Chater Road in Central, and with the flexibility to extend the duration of the event – from a one-day physical event to a month-long online campaign on Facebook and Instagram.

Since 1997, ACCA has been organising this flagship event annually to help the needy in local community. Over the past 22 years, through the exciting rickshaw competition participated by accountancy firms, multinational companies, corporations and institutions, ACCA Hong Kong raised a total of over HK$20 million which helped foster cohesion between financial industries and the local community, and realised many meaningful projects of charitable organisations.

This year’s donations will go to AnAn International Education Foundation Hong Kong; Changing Young Lives Foundation; and
Hong Kong Society for the Blind.

Ernest Wong, Chairman of ACCA Hong Kong said, ‘The ACCA Community Day has been our annual signature event for over two decades already. The great donations and fun we had throughout the years has allowed us to build strong connections with the local community as a profession. Despite the Covid-19 situation, it is important to carry on this tradition, as the meaning of this event goes beyond numbers. It has become a tradition well-loved by the general public and business community alike. It is also ACCA’s strong commitment to bringing love and care to our society, as we have been growing along with Hong Kong for seven decades.’

Wong added, ‘The year 2020 is a challenging year for all of us globally, facing disruptive changes in life and at work. We are excited to host this year’s event in a brand-new format under the new normal.  Thanks to the AR technology, we are proud to unite with our members in this charitable initiative, experience fun together while sharing support to needy local community.’

ACCA Community Day virtual rickshaw race AR game can be accessed through ACCA Hong Kong Facebook and Instagram starting today. We are excited to introduce our Corporate Challenge – offering a chance for organisations to connect with their employees for team-building and fun, and with charitable causes. The company with the most donation will be awarded the Top Donation Award, while the company/ institute with the highest accumulated score of the AR game will be awarded the Top Participating Company/ Institute Award.
