Irish accountant makes history

Dubliner Orla Collins appointed deputy president of ACCA

An Irishwoman has been appointed as deputy president of ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) for the first time in its 116-year history.

Orla Collins, from Dublin, was named to the global role at ACCA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) which was held entirely online – another first.

Ms Collins joined ACCA in 1997 and has served on its global governing Council since 2012.

She will continue in her position as interim managing director at Aberdeen Standard Investments Ireland in Dublin.

‘It is an enormous honour to serve as ACCA’s deputy president,’ said Ms Collins.

‘It is such a responsible role to represent fellow members at events all around the world, and I am so grateful and happy that so many wonderful people have placed so much trust in me. As an Irish woman it is a huge privilege to represent the profession on the global stage.’

Ms Collins will serve alongside ACCA’s new president, Mark Millar, from Suffolk, England. Joseph Owolabi, from Melbourne, Australia, will fill the vice president position which Ms Collins held last year.

Ronnie Patton, senior lecturer at Ulster University and a former president of ACCA Ireland, was re-elected to ACCA’s global governing Council.
