ACCA’s (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) signature Business Competition for 2022-23 was concluded on 14 January successfully. Themed ‘The Digital Future is Now: Creating your transformative vision for a better world’, this year’s competition has invited Social Enterprise Business Centre (SEBC) as the Partner Organisation for the ninth year, and the World Vision Hong Kong as the Case Partner.
After rounds of competition, students from The University of Hong Kong (Vision Consulting) won the championship. Their winning proposal aims to achieve an interactive metaverse community through a mobile app. Students from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CARES) were awarded the 1st Runner-up, with their proposal aiming at enabling the young generation to donate creativity in terms of content. Students from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (SAFTECH) were awarded the 2nd Runner-up. Their idea is about strengthening relationship with the community through social entrepreneurship.
Winnie Ki, Chairman of ACCA Hong Kong said, ‘ACCA promotes a “Think Ahead” attitude and it has always been our commitment to nurturing the next generation of top business leaders. Through the world-class ACCA Qualification, we offer a well-structured training path, equipping young talents with in-demand business know-how – including digital, analytical and professional skills. Technology plays a critical role in accelerating transformations and reacting to unpredictable changes. Therefore, we are placing “Digital” and “Sustainability” as the two core elements of this year’s competition, with an aim to encourage contesting students to leverage digital technologies in accelerating business transformation and driving sustainability. We hope to offer a stage for students to unleash their innovative minds, and elevate their leadership potential in the digital age.’
ACCA launched its Business Competition in 2007 which originally was a case challenge for full-time degree and sub-degree students from Hong Kong and Macau and has developed into an APAC event, inviting eligible students from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Vietnam to participate. This year, there are two teams from Vietnam among the Top 8 Teams. Contesting teams, comprising three to four students from the same institution, took on the role of a business consultant to design a campaign/project/product for the selected work areas of World Vision Hong Kong and develop a sustainable business model adopting tool(s) of virtual world to unlock the digital potentials. Students’ proposals must demonstrate a well-defined vision and purpose to realise the benefits to the needy in the physical world. The purpose could be increasing public awareness of the organisational goodwill, developing fund-raising strategies to support the sustainability of the organisation, or enhancing the engagement of donors of the organisation.
