International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women - while also marking a call to action for a more gender balanced world.
We’re celebrating International Women’s Day on 8th March by using the international campaign theme of #BalanceforBetter. Did you know that this year is also the 110th anniversary of a pioneer joining our membership?
Ethel Ayres Purdie joined ACCA as our first female member in 1909 - and she was also the first women to be admitted to an accountancy body in the UK. Ethel went on to become the leading provider of income tax advice to women, and eventually operating as the Women’s Taxpayers Agency.
"On International Women’s Day we are paying tribute to our first female member Ethel Purdie, who worked tirelessly to achieve balance in the accountancy profession"Helen Brand OBE, ACCA’s chief executive
To mark 2019’s celebrations, join us for our first Ethel Ayres Purdie Lecture, a live, hour-long webinar that will explore Ethel’s work. We’ll also look at this year’s theme for IWD - #BalanceforBetter and what this means for the profession in the 21st century.
