Jinder Singh Toor, an ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) student from Leeds, has achieved the top score for ACCA’s the SBL – Strategic Business Leader exam making him a global prize-winner in the latest ACCA exam session.

ACCA celebrates outstanding exam achievement by candidates who achieve the highest marks on their first attempt worldwide. Students who achieve 85% or above in AB, MA, FA and LW will be issued with a Certificate of Achievement in recognition of their success. Cash prizes will be awarded to candidates attaining the highest mark worldwide for individual exams under the Applied Skills (excluding LW) and Strategic Professional exams. Medals are specially awarded to candidates who have attained the highest total average marks worldwide in the Strategic Professional exams upon achieving affiliate status.

Congratulating Jinder’s success, Claire Bennison, head of ACCA UK, said: ‘Jinder’s fantastic accomplishment in achieving the highest score worldwide for the Strategic Business Leader exam showcases his dedication and commitment. Many congratulations Jinder.’

Jinder Singh Toor, EMEA Internal Auditor, PPG Industries said, ‘I am delighted to have become an ACCA Global Prizewinner in the March 2020 exam session. It’s fantastic to know I received the highest mark globally for the Strategic Business Leader exam. I found the online tuition course was very useful, this suited my work schedule as I travel frequently within my role. My employer, PPG Industries, is very supportive; and I have colleagues that had completed (or were completing) similar exams which was great.

‘I have always found maths and accounting interesting so it felt natural to pursue a career in this field, it was always something I enjoyed. Working full-time and studying was a completely different dynamic to studying at University, so one of the most important changes in study patterns for the ACCA qualification was to manage my time effectively. I am 27 months into the practical experience required and I envisage becoming an ACCA Chartered Accountant in early 2021. To anyone considering a career in Accountancy, I would say if you enjoy it then pursue it. Make sure you give your all each and every day, and the hard work will pay off!’

Amtul Rana, Kaplan Tutor said “Jinder listened to the advice imparted to him during the lessons but most of all, he put in the required effort. It's painful spending all that time doing question practice when you could be watching your favourite series on Netflix! For all other students, I would say that we've all got something to learn from the grittiness with which Jinder achieved this position. Well done, Jinder!”

‘We know this latest exam period has been a challenge for our global student community, not to mention that this is a particularly difficult time for many of our students who are unsure of their next steps. ACCA continues to closely monitors the situation globally as it develops. ACCA has an online information and advice hub for students and members, with a section on wellbeing to help people manage the impact of the global pandemic’ concludes Claire.

As the Covid-19 pandemic continues, ACCA has announced June exam sitting cancellations in some markets – including in the UK, Western Europe and Americas. Where exams are cancelled, students will be issued with an exam fee credit to their MyACCA account for the exams already entered so they can be rebooked for a future exam session. ACCA students still have the flexibility to postpone any sitting within the exam entry window, and ACCA has also frozen exam entry prices for the September 2020 session as it closely monitors the situation globally as it develops.
