Intermediate equivalence. Procedures and guidance

The IBCC has set out specific criteria for gaining equivalence.

As per IBCC’s notification issued on 24 February 2015, ACCA’s Foundation Diploma has been awarded with equivalence of Intermediate in commerce group in Pakistan.

The broad criteria approved are:

  • Candidates having SSC or GCE ‘O’ level shall be eligible for entering into the Foundation Diploma
  • Students who graduated from the Foundation Diploma from 2014 onwards will have to pass three subjects at higher secondary level from a Board of Technical Education or - for students in Balochistan - the concerned Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education.

These three subjects are:

  • Business Mathematics
  • Statistics
  • Principles of Economics

Terms and conditions

1. Candidates must pass

All seven exams and complete the 'Foundations in Professionalism' module in the Foundation Diploma.

2. Candidates must submit

  • Completed application form of equivalence along with the fee. The application equivalence form is available on IBCC’s website
  • ACCA Foundation Diploma certificate (original and a copy) and official transcripts signed and attested by ACCA Pakistan
  • Letter issued by ACCA Pakistan offices, confirming registration details (including name, registration number, date of birth and date of registration)
  • One passport sized photograph
  • Applicant’s copy of passport/CNIC or Form “B” duly signed and attested by a government official of grade 17 or above
  • One copy of applicant’s father’s CNIC attested by government official of grade 17 or above
  • In the case of overseas students, a copy of passport and VISA is required duly signed and attested by government official
  • Students enrolled through matriculation background in ACCA FD programme must submit the verified Matric credentials (copy and original mark sheet and certificate)
  • Students enrolled through GCE/O-Level background in ACCA FD programme must submit the O-Levels (GCE certificate and statement of result along with the equivalence certificate for O-Level. You may like to apply simultaneously to obtain equivalency for both FD and O-Level from IBCC. For details on GCE O-Level equivalence requirements, please refer to IBCC’s website 

Upon receiving the above documents, IBCC will issue letter/NOC to the students/ colleges, which will allow students to apply to Technical Education Board to sit three additional exams. In order to appear in additional exams, students or colleges (on behalf of students) will need to register with any Boards of Technical Education.

3. Candidates must register with any Boards of Technical Education by submitting the following documents

  • Copy of IBCC letter/NOC
  • Copy of Foundation Diploma certificate
  • Letter issued by ACCA Pakistan offices, confirming registration details (name, registration number, date of birth and date of registration)
  • Official transcript of FD papers passed duly signed and stamped by ACCA Pakistan offices
  • A copy of Matric mark sheet verified and attested by government official
    Examination form along with the correct fee. Examination forms can be downloaded from websites of respective boards.

Upon passing three additional exams, the student or their college will submit the following documents to IBCC, based on which IBCC will issue the equivalence certificate

4. IBCC will issue the equivalence certificate

  • Copy of IBCC letter/NOC
  • Copy of Foundation Diploma certificate
  • Letter issued by ACCA Pakistan offices, confirming registration details (name, registration number, date of birth and date of registration)
  • Official transcript of Foundation Diploma papers passed duly signed and stamped by ACCA Pakistan offices
  • A copy of Matric mark sheet verified and attested by government official
  • Result/mark sheet of three additional exams passed  

After obtaining equivalence, students will request ACCA to transfer onto the ACCA Qualification.
